The way I see it, video games are an evolution of media. It started with spoken stories. Then, we added the extra dimension of words, and we created books, which got popular with the invention of the printing press. Now, writers had to take care about their choice of words.
After that, we added another dimension by making our stories into moving pictures. Now, the creators have to be good actors, and the cinematography has to be good for the movie to be good.
And now, we added yet another extra dimension by making our movies interactive. Good games have all the things that the good things in the past have. A good story, a good visual aspect, and now we also have a good gameplay.

I'm really excited about games.

That was a nice description. What I also love is games that actually make up a movie if you add all missions and cutscenes together; like this one:
