Picture this: your girlfriend has just given birth to your firstborn, you take a ton of pictures with a proper DSLR camera and after a few days you plug the SD memory card into your PC. "You need to format the disk in Drive X: before you can use it." suddenly pops up on the screen. Card is completely corrupt, gf is already starting to freak out.
Cue a couple of google searches later and I stumble upon PhotoRec https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
Downloaded the tool and managed to recover everything. Crisis averted.
Posting here just in case someone else has this problem and needs a quick easy fix.
