No. ATi has always been AMD. It's just a name.
EDIT: ATi used to be a manufacturer, but AMD bought it in 2006 and kept the name.

Question though: Why does it actually matter... I've just always thought AMD + AMD and Intel + Nvidia work better together.. and that's why I suggested one of those 2 combinations

At the end of the day...intel processors are far ahead of AMD so I'm sure that this advantage makes up for their not being of the same manufacturer.

If you look at performance benchmarks (google.) you can see that Intel Processors are far better.

Which is also why their prices are so much higher than AMD processors.
