Great initiative, but it has been done dozens of times. Also, 9gag mods will simply shut down the site for a day, issue an official pardon, and bring back the cancer a day later.

Regardless of what happens, I want to see this. The date choice is awesome, and I congratulate them for this. No disrespect intended for the victims of 9/11.
