Actually, I just saw a documentary about the public schools in the US (Waiting for Superman). Watch that and you know why increasing the budget won't really work :P
 
The reason why we need so much monies on Defense is because every time we come out w/ something new its on discovery channel the next day :(

The reason you need so much on defense is because you morons cant help yourselfs, you cant help but go into other countries and try to run it.
 
Nimphioüs, I can understand your dislike of American political decisions, but considering Fries is from the Bronx, I don't think that fool aint goin' cross no border aint no how just now. He more worried 'bout gettin' rolled up in his crib.

Personally I find those statics disgusting... I don't have much respect for the human race as a whole, we just keep trying to kill each other. Half the people in the world probably dream about genocide. I also find it cleverly named, "Defense". Seems to me like the American military is considered far more of an "Offence". Or at least call it "Military" if you don't want your citizens to see what really going on Too suddenly.
 
I think your views of both the Bronx as well as America are pretty distorted.
First of all, the Bronx is quite calm.
Second of all, this graph shows government funding of these places. Obviously NASA gets alot more money than that, but most of it is from private grants/etc.
As for the invasion of places, we don't 'try to run it', we try to put people in power who will support our ventures and allow us to do w/e we want in their land.
Also, if you look at similar pie charts for all countries, it would be rare to find one in which the funding for education is more than the funding for defense.

As far as political control, as long as they aren't Communists, they're fine.
Beyond that we don't really care.

Just look @ Iraq a couple decades ago:
Saddam was being a violent dictator towards the people of Iraq but we didn't care, because we were getting resources.
 
...I don't understand... Are you trying to defend your country's political decisions by saying word for word "We don't give a crap about them so long as we can drain their country for our benefit?" I've been away for a while, but I don't think that flys too well around here...

I was describing the hypocritical nature of the American government because Nimphioüs has a distorted view on the issue.

Do I think it's morally right or that it makes any sense? No, no one does.
The point is: the administration of any place, anywhere in the world, is fucked up. It's just not a fair assessment to only look @ the pie chart of America and use that to compare it to the world before looking at the pie charts of the other places.
