Top Gear staff ‘celebrated’ after Chris Evans announced he was leaving
Top Gear staff reportedly celebrated after Chris Evans quit the BBC motoring show.
The TV host announced yesterday on Twitter that he was stepping down after just one series.
A source told The Sun : ‘Chris is gone – everyone here is celebrating. It’s been a disaster.’
Matt LeBlanc is expected to take over as the main presenter after the BBC said Evans wouldn’t be replaced and there would be no changes to the presenting line-up.
The insider added: ‘Matt is going to get the big job on his own. There are already active negotiations and he’s almost certain to sign now that he doesn’t have to work with Chris.’
‘Chris won’t be replaced but Matt will become the star presenter surrounded by the existing team. The show is about more than one person.’
The Stig, Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan remain as presenters on the show.
