The Oatmeal vs. FunnyJunk

You may have heard it already, but if you don't, here's the story:

Matthew Inman, the creator and owner of The Oatmeal, wrote a letter to FunnyJunk Inc last year. The reason was that Funnyjunk had posted Inman's comic on their site, without giving credit (the shopped out the watermarks). On top of that, they blatantly posted advertisement all over the page, basically making money over other people's backs. Inman wrote in his letter that he wanted that FJ took down his content, along with content from other artists. They quickly removed a couple of pictures, but a lot remained.

But now the battle has taken another turn. In this letter you can read how FunnyJunk's lawyer demands that Inman pay $20,000 for slandering FJ. According to the lawyer, Inman claims in his over 1 year old post, that FJ has his content online, even though it has been taken down since then.

Inman responded by starting a massive donation campaign, with the goal of raising $20,000 and giving half of it to the National Wildlife Federation and the other half the American Cancer Society. As of now, with 12 days to go, he has raised $161,237.

Another lesson in why you should always honor an artists work.

Do NOT mess with The Oatmeal.

Also raising that amount so fast is so impressive.

RIP funnyjunk (hopefully)

Never really liked FJ tbh, so wouldn't care if they'd die because of this.
