Porsche stunned the competition at the North American Auto Show in Detroit today by unveiling the latest version of their elegant new 918 hybrid supercar.

Combining the hybrid tech from their GT3 R racer with the 918 Spyder body, Porsche says the RSR has 756bhp under the hood; 555bhp comes from its mid-mounted V8 petrol engine (taken from Porsche’s RS Spyder LMP2) driven through a six-speed paddle-shift transmission to the rear wheels. Another 201bhp is generated by a pair of electric motors on the front wheels.

Perhaps more interesting than the car, however, is the giant energy flywheel that sits where one would expect the passenger seat to be. It’s basically a real-life “turbo boost” system that captures and stores energy until you need a quick bump.

I sense the next NFS will be with this car and many others with this boost system XD

Awesome find.

Nice and economic, but I don't like the point that electroengines don't have kickass sound ;_;
