Minecraft is a sandbox game which allows players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D world. It is currently in development by Markus Persson, aka "Notch". The gameplay is inspired by Dwarf Fortress, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Dungeon Keeper, and especially Infiniminer.[1][2] The game is split into two variants, Alpha and Classic; Classic is both single- and multiplayer and includes only the building aspects of the game with unlimited blocks, and Alpha also has a single- and- multiplayer mode and includes monsters and a much greater variety of crafting available, as well as requiring players to mine their own blocks. Alpha is currently the latest release of Minecraft, and will move into beta sometime in September 2010. Minecraft was developed for about a week before its public release on May 17, 2009 on the TIGSource forums, where it gained a considerable level of popularity. It has been continually updated since then.

I was planning to make MC Discussion Thread ever since I bought it, but for some reason I never made one. Thanks Mave for making this! :D
 
Yeah I still need to figure out LOADS of things though, like how I can transport water/lava, how I can dig the stones with the red sparkling things in it,...
I need to find other materials I guess, but so far I haven't, and I dug deep as you can see.. :/

I want a full list of all the different materials :d
 
I played this game for 10 minutes, I don't see what all the hype is about.
 
Well, it's not for everyone, but the number of purchases definitely says that people enjoy it.

I love when I'm digging and I discover a cave :T

Found 3 more gold stones, but I need to find steel so I can actually GET the gold :/

No one would play it with me so I kinda got bored shooting boxes and such and all the "Tools" did the same thing for me so I was like.. eh -_-
 
^Same here... Played till the night fell, then in the night some fucking zombie trolls went HOW DO I SHOT CROSSBOW on me -_____!
 
Lol, at first it's boring because you have NOTHING in your inventory. You need to find everything. Once you establish a good inventory and tools, you can go around exploring :3

And by the way, does he need to pay taxes or something?
 
Sigh :( I found loads of gold now, but I need iron to make steel, to make a steel pick to get the gold... ;_;
I haven't found any iron yet :(
