And I'm going to add that while hybrids seem like magic fuel-savers, they're only efficient on short, city-based runs. Once you go beyond the range of the batteries, the engine takes over, and those batteries become a giant dead weight. Which causes the engine (though small) to work harder, wasting fuel. And climbing hills seems easy, with 2 engines driving the wheels, but again, those batteries create a huge dead weight.
I'm not saying hybrid cars are the devil's work, because they are efficient to some distance, but please don't buy them because you want to be "eco-friendly" on your 50 mile commute.
