A Dutch man who underwent hip surgery two years ago has appeared in a TV interview claiming he has not been able to stop laughing ever since.
According to Huug Bosse’s wife, her husband now spends his days laughing at everyone and everything and it all started when he had a hip replaced under anaesthesia in 2010.
“It appears that due to the operation, due to the anaesthesia he was laughing more,” Mr Bosse’s wife tells the Dutch TV program Man Bijt Hond as he sits roaring with laughter next to her.
While Mr Bosse did laugh before, his personality had significantly altered since the operation and he now laughed almost all the time, she claims.
“Sometimes it starts to get really annoying all that laughing the whole day,” she said.
“When you are having a discussion and all he does is laughing, then it gets annoying.”
Mr Bosse’s wife said her husband did not seem to notice the change in his demeanour, but producers from Man Bijt Hond appeared to have trouble getting a straight answer out of him.
“I’m not saying anything,” was all he would say about any change in his behaviour, before laughing uproariously.
Mr Bosse’s laughter seems to have put a strain on his relationships with family members.
His daughter and brother had become exasperated with his constant mirth, his wife said.
“They don’t visit anymore,” Mr Bosse says, bursting into uncontrollable laughter and slapping his knee.
Despite all the laughter, there is still one thing that can make Mr Bosse cry – the Dutch national anthem, which he describes as “a beautiful song”.
