A 10-year-old British boy who stabbed a male teacher in the chest with a sharp pencil causing him to be hospitalised has been let off with a warning.
The puncture wound came within an inch of puncturing a major artery, police said, but they decided against prosecuting the primary school student, the Daily Mail reports.
The decision has outraged the teachers' union, who said stronger action needs to be taken to prevent students from violence.
The pupil, described as being of a "very slight" build, had launched a kicking attack on a female teacher, before the male teacher tried to intervene.
The student then pulled a sharp pencil from the teacher's chest pocket and stabbed him in the chest.
The boy can legally be charged in the UK but prosecutors instead decided to give him a formal warning.
He has been moved to another school.
