A company called Amped Wireless is claiming that the new SR600EX Pro Smart Repeater can boost your home Wi-Fi signal to such strengths that you’ll be able to access your network from up to 1.5 miles away.
The device uses 600mW amplifier and only costs $180.

I'd rather have a ubiquiti nanostation, it's on it's own channel, and can only be recieved with another nanostation (thus by just you being able to use it, no matter how crappy the encryption is)

Speeds can be around 10mbps or more.
