Police are investigating a bizarre burning man case: no, not the event, but one involving a man who apparently lit himself on fire last night.
Lieutenant Troy Dangerfield said that the man was watching a movie inside an adult bookstore at Sixth and Mission streets at about 6:30 p.m. when he somehow set himself ablaze.
He ran screaming out of the business; Dangerfield says people around tried to put the man out, but he ran off.
Firefighters saw him, extinguished the flames and took the man to St. Francis Memorial Hospital's Bothin Burn Center, where he now has life-threatening injuries.
Dangerfield said they are not sure why or how the fire started. He said the clerk at the porn shop had give him tokens to go inside the booth where he was presumably watching porn. The clerk then heard a loud crack and saw a flash inside the dark booth. When he went to find out what happened, the man emerged from the booth in flames.
