Some of the technical details are starting to leak on the web, here are some;

  • The new system is called Nintendo HD – at least for now. It won’t bear the Wii brand but it will support Wii software, meaning backwards compatibility.
  • The hardware in the new system is more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s capable of playing games at HD resolution. Several sites are reporting a rumor that the system runs on an IBM CPU and an ATI R700 (the 360 uses an R500) with “at least” 512MB of RAM on board.
  • Several developers already have the hardware and are working on games. None of them are confirming anything, which means this is probably true.
  • The controllers for the new system will feature some sort of LCD screen capable of streaming content from the console. Some sites are reporting that the screen is touch sensitive, 6″ across, and doubles as some sort of camera/motion sensor.
  • Expect the console to launch sometime in late 2012.

By the time it releases, PC technology will be absolutely unreal, they're always gonna be behind..

They should develope a fucking controller, not the piece of shit we're having now.

Hey, console developers:
Why don't you just put a high end graphics card in a nice case w/ a cheap quad core processor and make a lite OS then develop games?
???
profit.

Profit for us, not for them. They only care about their profits, not ours lol. High end graphics cards, and quads in one console would cost a lot. And consoles are sold in millions because of their low cost...

only $200...
Add in some peripheral crap for $100 and its $300,
Sell for $400...
Profit.

++ they'll get the graphics card capabilities for less if they make a contract w/ them.

Yes, that seems good to you, $100 profit on each console. But, that's only 25% profit And right now(with crappy components) the cost of making a console is probably less than $100, and at one point, they were sold at $500. And that's 500% Profit. 500% > 25% Profit. They're extremely greedy.

And putting AMD and ATI cards in consoles would mean that they will never ever overheat and never go bad. Therefore they don't have extra money coming in from broken consoles and demands for replacements that they cost $150 for. They are putting crappy parts in, so that the customers would keep coming back.

Yeah I know, they're in it for the money. Thats also the reason why indie games are so epic.
BUT:
Make great gaming console = people switch over and buy yours instead of the competitions.

Then why did it not work for PC? With a PC you can choose what parts and components you want to put in. That's 100% better than consoles where you don't know what brand they are and if they have been used before or not. But still it has less people in it for gaming.

If Microsoft or Sony decides to put great parts in, and make an amazing console, they would probably have to sell it at a much higher price. And considering you (not you, you as in a consumer) are buying a console you wont be looking at the technical specs of a console. A normal consumer (with not much technical experience) would think that "That console costs $600, whereas this one costs $300, I might as well buy that, it has the same games." And then the console with better technical specs goes downhill in the market.

Now this Nintendo "HD"... Will it be playing games in true HD 1080p (1920x1080)? I think not. Or I might be wrong, and that's why in my first post I said that this might be a change in the console world.

Haven't xbox 360 and ps3 been playing games in 1920x1080 since launch?
Nah. Most games are upscaled lol, just take a look at this list.
For example:
Alan Wake = 960x544 (4xAA) - As per gamefest presentation
Aliens Vs Predator = 1120x630 (custom AA)
Alone in the Dark = 1040x600 (2xAA)

Because many people don't think of a computer as a professional gaming device. They consider it a place to do homework and play flash games. Serious gamers on the other hand see how far ahead the PC is.

Also, many people are inept at building their own pc's (I was as well and for the most part I still am).
Also, when they look at prices for computers at, for example, dell.com, they don't see the worth in buying it to play games.
Whereas a console is essentially plug and play.

Doesn't the bold just prove my point? If they start using very good hardware, the prices will go up, and no one will buy it to play games...

I do believe xbox really CAN'T output 1080p anyway?
Nope... Not enough hardware...

Places like dell overprice computers greatly, which is why I specifically mentioned it.
It's common knowledge that if you buy parts separately you save a lot of money, but, as I said in the sentence above that one, many people can't/are too afraid.

better hardware doesn't mean higher prices. It might mean less profit in the short term but it can also mean more in the long term if everyone is buying your console rather than 1/2 buying yours and 1/2 buying the oppositions.

I think they want short term results and make as much money as possible as soon as possible, and don't want to wait for a console to catch on to start making money.

Especially the Nintendo Wii... Upon release EVERYONE went out and bought one (Stores were sold out for months) because of the gimick, the motion controls. Now nobody even cares about the thing, but Nintendo doesn't care because they made their money and made it fast :P
