Next Minecraft update will include rain and snow effects

The next major Minecraft patch will also include snow and rain effects, Notch has confirmed .

Posting on Twitter, the Minecraft’s creator wrote: “Adding rain and snow to 1.5,” referring to the next 1.5 beta update for the popular indie sandbox game.

Later, Perrson posted up an image of what the effect will look like in Minecraft (shown above).

More Twitter posts said that snow and water in the game will grow crops, get the game’s newly added wolves wet, and put out any in-game fires.

“I’m getting so carried away with this weather. Adding thunder now,” he said.

There’s no word on when Minecraft 1.5 will be released. We do know that it will also add support for in-game stats and achievements.

YAY! I remember snow from alpha, it was awesome. Rain will be sweet :3
I hope he adds other kinds of weather too, like if it's raining/snowing the'res full cloud cover, and sometimes when it's really sunny then there's no clouds etc. He should also add some form of shadows from clouds.

The rain texture has been in minecraft.jar forever now. Finally it gets used!
