New Haven police officer barks like dog, tricks suspects into surrendering
NEW HAVEN – Two men were arrested after a short stand-off with police Friday.
According to a police press release, just before 11 a.m., New Haven police saw a car that Hamden police had been chasing, and picked up pursuit. They abandoned the pursuit a short while later in the interest of public safety.
After abandoning the chase, police received a report of two masked men entering a three-family home on Emerson Street. After arriving on the scene, officers saw the same car involved in the pursuit at the house.
Officers determined that the first floor of the house was empty, the second belonged to the owner of the building, and the third was rented to a family. Police called the third-floor family and told them to lock their door and stay in their home. They also called the owner, who was not home, and told him to meet them at the house.
Officers convinced the two masked men to come outside, after telling them they would send a police canine in.
Because there was no police canine available, an officer started barking like a dog. After hearing the barking, the men surrendered.
Kwame Wells-Jordan, 21, Hamden, and Norman Boone, 23, New Haven, were each arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft and burglary. Other charges are pending.
