Microsoft announced Tuesday it has finished the task of customizing Windows 7 to run on TVs, set-top boxes, digital signs, and other devices.

Among other things, the new software could allow Windows Media Center on new types of devices, Microsoft said. The operating system, dubbed Windows Embedded Standard 7, was shown Tuesday at the ESC Silicon Valley conference in San Jose, Calif.

"With the release of Windows Embedded Standard 7, Microsoft has furthered its commitment to the integration of Windows 7 technologies in the specialized consumer and enterprise device markets," said Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded unit.

The PC version of Windows 7 is already running on more than 10 percent of computers worldwide, Microsoft said last week as it announced quarterly earnings.

Microsoft first showed the embedded software, previously code-named Quebec, at ESC Boston in September. At that point, Microsoft was calling it Windows Embedded Standard 2011.

Can they make one to run on Mac? That would make a mac more worth having.

You can install 7 on a mac and make it the default OS already.

Pretty sure you can, google it for how :P

Lagged because your VMware wasn't granted enough RAM or space to operate Mac.

Yes, but it's illegal.
It's (kind of) easy if you get a hacked version, if you want to go semi-legal and buy OS X, it's considerably harder.

Either way, most computers don't work very well with hacked versions of OS X, it's quite annoying to install and get everything working (especially with the drivers), and updating is about 10x harder. But it's still possible.

The above statement is incorrect.
"Hackintosh" is a general term for OS X on a PC, and definitely doesn't work perfectly.

Mate from my class 2 years ago brought his PC to school and showed it. Every typical Mac thing works, it was just Mac. In the 4 years he's using it now, he had 1 kernal (or whatever it is) crash. You just need some good PC hardware to run it smoothly :)

Yeah well it varies PC by PC. Mac's have only certain hardware, so they (usually) work.
Because of the infinite PC hardware combinations, performance and stability will greatly vary. Some hardware components work by default, some require drivers (KEXTs) or patches, etc.
While some computers may have perfect hardware and run OS X correctly without problems, most will encounter some type of problem.
