Man fakes kidnapping to party with friends
A Texas man has been arrested after staging his own elaborate kidnapping just so he could get away from his wife and party with his friends.
A pair of masked men burst into the home of Rogelio Andaverde, 34, near Monte Alto in Texas and snatched him at gunpoint on Tuesday as his terrified wife, Maria Hernandez, watched on.
Mrs Hernandez then called police who gathered up at least a dozen deputies and launched an all-out manhunt which went on for several hours, but developed no leads, sparking suspicions among police officers.
Two days later, Mr Andaverde walked back into his home unharmed and explained to his wife that his captors just “let him go”.
But the tale didn’t stick, and soon after Mr Andaverde was called into the local police station for questioning. It was here that he confessed to orchestrating the entire scenario just so he could get away from home and party with friends.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino told reporters, “Well, he’s going to party in jail now. It’s humorous in a way, but also it’s very serious.”
Mr Andaverde’s been hit with a number of charges including filing a false report.
The Sheriff says he told Mr Andaverde to, “Go home and explain this to your wife.”
“It’s probably going to cost him,” he said.
Police are now hunting down the two men who posed as kidnappers.
