Since these pictures were taken with some pretty neat detail I can only think that he is pretty close to the mainland, or at least pretty close to a shipping route.

Nah, taken on some unknown planet, probably in between mercury and Venus. The sun looks damn close.

I doubt it. He would be a pile of ash if he was that close to the sun. Plus the water/liqued should be a gas at that point. Most likely an earth like planet in an other galax.

The planet is extremely well protected from the harmful rays and heat from the sun.
