1: Speed Dial
Whenever you open a new tab, all your fave pages are right there and you don't even have to go searching through the bookmarks menu to find what you want. You can have tons of sites on speed dial, and it makes going to your fave pages really quick
-Plus you can middle mouse click on them so you can open a bunch of pages quickly, like I do when I launch the browser. (I open TMS, Youtube, the berrics, and Lockerz)
2: Quick Searching/Custom Searches+keywords
You can search from the URL bar just by typing a keyword or letter and then the search term, for example to google TMS you would put (without quotes) "g themavesite" and it would search it with Google. G is the keyword for google. There's a bunch of searches there already and they each have a keyword. You can also create a search by browsing to that site and right clicking the search field, and hitting "Create Search". I made a TMS search so I can search TMS forums quickly
-I reccomend deleting the Yahoo search and making a YouTube search with keyword "y", and making a google images search with the keyword "gi". I use my Google Images one a LOT, and its MUCH nicer and quicker than browsing to the site, clicking images, typing it in, clicking search.
3: Themes
File > Appearence, or "O Menu" > Appearence will take you to the themes window, where you can choose from themes already installed, or you can click the button to find new ones. When you find a theme you think looks nice, hit download and it will download very quickly and will instantly be applied, ad a window will pop up asking if you want to keep it. If you hit yes, it will be kept, but if you hit no it will be deleted. Also you can change the main color scheme via that little dropdown at the bottom.
-You can make your own themes or customize existing themes quite easilly, and Opera encourages it and even gives an in-depth tutorial on it Here
4: Password Manager
When you go to a site and log in, it will ask you if you want to save it just like any other browser and etc. But this password manager can manage more than one password for any site
If you have more than one PW saved for a site, it obviously WONT automatically log you in. Instead, click the little Key icon next to the reload button at the top, and that will give you a little box with your saved accounts for that site.
5: Shortcuts
Opera has SO many shortcuts that I cant even remember all the ones I know right now D: But for example, press F12 and it gives you some quick options such as pop-up blocking, enable/disable cookies, and some more stuff. (I'd reccomend blocking all pop ups, then they just show up in the corner as an Opera notification so you can open them if you want)
6: Email
Opera's email client/manager is excellent. Never had a problem with it, and I find it nice to just have both my mail accounts right there so I don't have to browse to Gmail or Hotmail to see messages or send them, and Whenever I open the browser I get notifications in the bottom right corner of my new messages so really I don't even have to check.
Other cool things not worth getting in detail of:
-Downloads manager is cool, nice notification in the corner when a DL completes
-Sidebar is good for managing stuff like Emails and etc.
-Private tabs, they hide your browsing. Hehe.
-CTRL+Tab scrolls through your open tabs in a nice visual box with a preview of the site
Cool Widgets:
1: PANIC BUTTON
If you're browsing a site and the situation is getting sketchy around you (Someone might walk in), just open this widget and have it set to Always on Top so if someone DOES come in, you can press it quick. It just covers most of your screen with solid grey, but it leaves a little bit of the tab bar showing so you can switch tabs. Then you can just click the grey to close the "Panic Mode". This widget is great now too because you don't even have to have Opera running to use it, so you could use it with a different browser or just whatever you want
