Well, it looks like our friends at Apple have officially lost it. Declining sales in comparison to other mobile platforms seem to be playing a number in the heads of executives of the mega corporation behind the iPod, iPhone, and iPad (among many other products). XDA moderator AllGamer points us to a very interesting story where apparently Apple decided to sue Samsung for infringing intellectual property rights (probably, they chose Samsung because they are running out of competitors to sue). The truth of the matter is that this is not the first move of this kind that we see from them. In the last year and a half, Apple has sued HTC, Nokia, Google, and a few other companies for IP copying… all the patents allegedly copied have been from their mobile device division.
In the most recent episode, Apple believes that Samsung’s Touchwiz UI is a direct copy of the UI present in the iPhone/iPod/iPad. This will likely be an interesting debate in a courtroom when Apple tries to demonstrate that they invented one of the following concepts:
[*]Clicking on an icon to open an app;
[*]Touchscreen;
[*]Icons;
[*]Alignment in a square array;
[*]Swipe motion to change screens;
I really, and personally, cannot think of any other aspect of their UI that can be patented. And truth be told, all of these concepts existed way before the iPhone became what it is today.

Apple is butthurt because of the 200% increase of Android phones in sales over iOS phones over a year. =D
