Nothing, .so files are only for linux. You have to download the Windows version. http://code.google.com/p/multitheftauto/downloads/list The two last ones (multitheftauto_data-r1290.exe and multitheftauto_net-r982.zip ), not the first one.

You dont need to convert then into .map. They are XML files in the same structure as MTA Race Editor maps, only the header info is different (only one line). You can use the online converter by delux-host, it supports mta dm maps.
