Depicted above are the 16 survivors of the Infamous Andes plane crash in 1972. The passengers had to resort to eating their passed away co-passengers to survive 72 days without help. Also in the photograph is a human rib-cage...

I saw this image again yesterday after a few years and got so intrigued by it that I read the entire Wikipedia page, kept reading up on the subject for the past 24 hours, and I just finished watching the I Am Alive: Surviving the Andes Plane Crash documentary (which got recommended everywhere as the best documentary about the events). Can confirm the documentary was really, really good. Go watch this.

There's also a movie and a book about the event, but I haven't read/seen those.

I've been trying to find the entire camera roll of that camera, but so far my searches didn't come up with anything. I did find a few extra ones though.

All the passengers in the plane minutes before the heavy turbulence and the crash.

Another one taken by them after they've crashed and recovered the camera (like in the first post).

After 72 days, the remaining survivors wave down rescue helicopters carrying survivor Nando Parrado who helped the pilots locate the plane.
