Quite depressing that the dad thinks he himself is a mistake born into the world :/

I believe impulse was making a joke based on the grammar of the sentence
Basically, the dad calls it "my birth certificate," meaning it's the dad's birth certificate :tongue:

What you said was what the joke is supposed to mean but the double meaning is also quite funny :)
