I don't know whether the blame is fully on the actor, or also partly on the role, but the protagonist is just as bland as it can get. Maybe the movie would have been better with a more exciting lead. However, he still has no real arc, other than being a claustrophobic peeping tom.
It's really obvious that De Palma was inspired by Hitchcock's Vertigo and Rear Window, which both blow this movie away any day of the week.
The good? The OST by Pino Donaggio, the Frankie Goes To Hollywood scene.
